Why Choose Us?

Apart from awareness programs and workshops, the Auroville Bamboo Centre is also involved in research and development though inventing eco-friendly alternatives to housing needs, interior and furniture design and household products.

By hosting students as interns and volunteers, the Auroville Bamboo Research Centre supports students who want to study the many possibilities and applications of bamboo. We offer access to a range of workshops, a wealth of knowledge and an extensive network.

Bamboo Centre is currently developing a new project dedicated to efficient and effective bamboo farming in the local climate of the tropical dry evergreen forest (TDEF). By intercropping fruits and vegetables, this model farm shall serve as an alternative to cash crop farming with environmentally friendly properties.

Bamboo Centre is run as a socially responsible enterprise, providing work opportunities both those without access to education and women from the rural areas surrounding Auroville. We strive to empower our staff by teaching useful skills of bamboo craft and various other life skills. We are particularly proud of our two head carpenters, who now regularly teach college students during our hands-on workshops.
